$200 Singer Sewing Machine Bar

I found this Singer Sewing Machine curbside while dropping my kids off in the morning at my in-laws.  At the curb, I thought for sure I was going to convert it into a vanity which would have been an attractive size for most newly built powder rooms.  However, after removing the ridiculously heavy sewing machine while my still-living grandma wept, I noticed the entire frame was bowed from years of gravity.  Even completely gutted, standing with only 4 legs and 3 sides, the piece still had endless possibilities. That night after the Singer pixie dust wore off and some whisky hit my bloodstream, my manliness kicked in.  Who wants some fireball? D: 18W x 36L x 30H

$200 Round Farm table

I got this round table as secondary purchase on a craigslist run for another table.  I picked it up to challenge myself.  Structurally, it was still like new.  The top though was made of tiny pieces of wood fingerjointed together in similar manner to butcher block.  This makes for a very stable solid wood top but it is also hideous to look at.  It was even hideous to look at brand new.  So I took it to a wizard and he made the top look ridiculously awesome.  After a new paint job, this table is now strong and beautiful  D: 42D x 30H

Quality Craftsmanship:

  • Solid wood construction
  • Solid wood glued top in a driftwood distressed finish
  • Removable table legs
  • Table top fasteners attached to allow for seasonal movement
  • Sprayed with many layers of a high performance topcoat

-SOLD- $250 Empire Dresser

With upcycling, I don't always try to reinvent the wheel.  It is hard to keep a sewing machine a sewing machine but sometimes a dresser can stay a dresser.  Vintage empire dressers are my all-time favorite so this piece got my full attention. New top, new paint job, new details. A subtle amount of sanding highlights the natural curves of this piece without going overboard.  The knobs were heavily distressed in the front to give the piece some accenting color and to simulate years of hard use opening and closing the drawers.  And, those keyhole details are sick!  This piece has that perfect amount of old and new. D: 18W x 36L x 52H

Quality Craftsmanship:

  • Completely sealed inside and out to block out tannins and smells
  • Loose drawers were repaired
  • Veneered top removed and replaced with a new solid wood top
  • The whole piece was painted inside and out
  • Slotted table top fasteners to allow for seasonal movement
  • Sprayed with many layers of a high performance topcoat

Chair Upcycle.jpg

-SOLD- $175 Chair bench and coat rack

Way outside of the box.  This is one of my new favorites because its my own original design.  Has someone done it before? Probably, but I've never seen it.  I've been thinking about doing something like this for over a year and I finally came up with the right design in my head to commit full heartedly to this piece.  This would look sick in a farmhouse or studio apartment. Stool D: 18"W x 18"L x 18"H Rack D: 3.5"W x 24"L

  • Rack has 3 double hooks

-SOLD- $300 Singer Powder room Vanity

This project was an absolute epiphany.  Upcycle dressers are great powder room pieces yet most dressers are always to big!  These old singer sewing machines are the perfect size.  That's not even the best part.  Once you remove the sewing machine, there is already plenty of room for plumbing.  This particular piece was in such good shape that I even kept the top (that rarely happens).  The base was cleaned, painted, distressed and glazed.  The top was stripped of the varnish, cut to accommodate the plumbing, restained, and refinished with oil base products.  After a refinishing of the brass metaI, I was able to reuse the original hardware too!  This piece is ready for installation.  D: 18W x 36L x 52H

Quality Craftsmanship:

  • Completely sealed inside and out to block out tannins and smells
  • Door hinges were repaired
  • Hardware was refinished
  • The back and top was cut to accommodate plumbing
  • Top was stripped, restained, and resealed with polyurethane
  • The base was artistically painted to recreate a vintage paint jobe
  • Sprayed with many layers of a high performance topcoat

-SOLD- $600 Double Sink Vanity

Not every dresser is destined for a vanity upcycle.  This one was the perfect size and shape and had just enough detail for my taste. Since the dresser was already 36" high, I decided to use a drop in sink instead of vessel.  I had my work cut out for me (pun intended) to make room for the plumbing.  The top row of double drawers are dummy but I salvaged the bottom two drawers for storage.   I was able to use the old, peeling veneer top as a template to make a new solid wood top that matches the piece seamlessly.  This piece now looks like it was originally built this way from day one.  This may be the most versatile vanity I have done to date.  I could see it in almost any style house.   D: 24W x 52L x 36H

Quality Craftsmanship:

  • Top row double drawers resized to accommodate plumbing
  • Completely sealed inside and out to block out tannins and smells
  • Loose drawers were repaired
  • Veneered top removed and replaced with a new solid wood top
  • The whole piece was painted inside and out
  • Slotted table top fasteners to allow for seasonal movement
  • New hammered iron hardaware
  • Sprayed with many layers of a high performance topcoat
  • faucet and sink included

-SOLD- $350 Farm table

When I first found this piece it was oversaturated with an opaque mahogany stain and layers of polyurethane.  It was a difficult piece to accurately date but given the simplicity of the tapered legs and solid wood top, I knew immediately I was going to make it look like it was 200 years old regardless of its actual age.  The table top oringially lacked character but after stripping the table top of all its layers of stain, I found a beautiful soft brown, lived in patina, that is impossible to replicate with real wood.  No way was I messing around with some more stain.  I simply sprayed many layers of a flat clear coat to give this table top some strong protection while preserving that warm inviting glow.  After an antique white paint job, this piece looks like an antique farm table that cost 4 times its actual price!  D: 36W x 72L x 30H

Quality Craftsmanship:

  • Table's original finish was stripped, sanded. and sealed
  • Solid pine table with a solid pine wood top
  • table legs attached with mortise and tenon joinery
  • Artistic vintage paint job
  • Sprayed with many layers of a high performance topcoat

-SOLD- $550 Empire Dresser Vanity

Even though its my signature look, I had yet to pair my vintage driftwood stain with a distressed white paint job on a dresser/vanity combo, so I knew I was all in when I found my favorite style dresser.  I really went for that chippy french provincial look with a driftwood matching undercoat oozing out of the white finish coat. The top and bottom are balanced beautifully in matching tones that make the piece feel %100 authentic.  My favorite feature are the knobs which were heavily distressed in the front to simulate years of hard use opening and closing the drawers.  And, those keyhole details are sick!  D: 24W x 52L x 36H

Quality Craftsmanship:

  • Top row double drawers fixed to accommodate plumbing
  • Completely sealed inside and out to block out tannins and smells
  • Loose drawers were repaired
  • Veneered top removed and replaced with a new solid wood top
  • The whole piece was painted inside and out
  • Slotted table top fasteners to allow for seasonal movement
  • Sprayed with many layers of a high performance topcoat
  • faucet and sink included

-SOLD- $900 Double Sink Vanity

This piece has already sold to a client for a pinterest recreation but I couldn't help but post.  When I first picked up the dresser, it was a classic "wizard or psychitzo moment."  The dresser was the ideal size and shape for the recreation but it needed a lot of work.  New baseboard, new glass doors, new solid wood top, structural reinforcement, seal coats of shellac, you get the point.  In the end, it was well worth the effort.  D: 24W x 60L x 36H

Quality Craftsmanship:

  • All drawers resized to accommodate plumbing
  • Completely sealed inside and out to block out tannins and smells
  • Loose drawers were repaired
  • Veneered top removed and replaced with a new solid wood top
  • The whole piece was painted inside and out
  • Slotted table top fasteners to allow for seasonal movement
  • New glass doors
  • New baseboard
  • Structural reinforcement where necessary
  • 3 step hardware finish
  • Sprayed with many layers of a high performance topcoat
